Walmart and Bethel Temple Ministries Partner
for Senior Appreciation Day
Columbus, April 2014 – On Thursday, April 24th, from 10 am. – noon, the South High Street Walmart location partnered with Bethel Temple Ministries for Senior Appreciation Day. Designed to serve the community, this day will be filled with an array of services that will address the needs of individuals 55 and over.
Taking place at the Bethel Temple Ministry Center, located at 2900 Lockbourne Rd. (on the corner of Lockbourne Rd. and Watkins Rd.), this event provided a variety of free items donated by Walmart and Bethel Temple Ministries. Items given away will include such things as clothing for men, women and children; shoes; hair products; personal hygiene products; cleaning materials; yard maintenance materials and more. In addition, organizations were on-site to provide blood pressure screenings and diabetes testing. Refreshments were served and door prizes given, all in an attempt to meet the needs of the community.
“The need within the community is so great, especially for our seniors,” says Phyllis Viney. “They are struggling with limited income and we wanted to help provide assistance for them. Things like this help us to help meet the need of our community.”
According to Viney, who is a member of Bethel Temple, her boss at Walmart and her pastor share the same vision. “We asked Walmart if they would partner with us in this area. We are out here and have a lot of needs that need to be met in this community. The bible says you have not because you ask not, and when we asked Walmart they immediately said yes.”
Walmart’s mission is to create opportunities so people can live better. Considering it to be their responsibility to make a positive impact in the communities that they serve, whether through the grants they provide to thousands of organizations that share their mission or through the inspiring volunteer efforts of Walmart associates, they are passionate about helping people live better. One community at a time.
“Working with Walmart is a blessing,” says Senior Pastor, Dane D. Clark. “It allows us together to help meet the spiritual and natural needs of our community and I believe this partnership will help us create a stronger community.”
Bethel Temple Ministries has been located in the Southfield community of Columbus, Ohio for over 20 years. The ministry seeks to build upon these roots to produce a harvest of resources the will benefit our community and its citizens.
